Windows 95/98/ME Changing DNS Settings
Click on the
Start
button on your screen (usually located in the lower left corner of your Windows screen). A menu will appear. From that menu, choose
Settings...
and then from the second menu that appears, choose
Control Panel
.
The Control Panel window will appear. In that window, find the icon labled
Network
and double-click on it.
The Network window will then appear. In the window, you will see a list of the network hardware and software components installed on your computer. In the list, look for the items that begin with
"TCP/IP"
.
Find the TCP/IP item that corresponds to your DSL connection or Ethernet card. Once you have found it, click once on it so that it is highlighted and then click on the
Properties
button located below the list of items. If you only have one TCP/IP item, simply labeled "TCP/IP," highlight that item and click on the
Properties
button.
A new window called TCP/IP Properties will appear. Near the top of the window will be several file tabs. Find the tab labled
DNS Configuration
and click on it
On the DNS Configuration tab, look at the section that starts with
DNS Server Search Order
.
If the larger box below DNS Server Search Order contains any of the following numbers:
209.0.104.150
209.0.104.140
remove the numbers by clicking on each number and then clicking the
Remove
button to the right until the numbers are all gone
Now, enter in the following DNS numbers:
67.100.88.26 & 64.105.172.26
After typing in each number, click the
Add
button to add the number to the larger box below.
You have now changed your DNS settings. Click the
OK
button at the bottom of the window to close that window, then click the
OK
button at the bottom of the next window. If you are asked if you want to
Restart
your computer, click
Yes
. You are now finished.
